This is why technology is still an inspiration to me. It enables people to do things that were previously impossible.
In this example, 60 Minutes showes what technology can do already: Read the rest of this article »
I always liked stories about an ordinary Joe doing something extraordinary.
Matt is a 31-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut who used to think that all he ever wanted to do in life was make and play videogames. Matt achieved this goal pretty early and enjoyed it for a while, but eventually realized there might be other stuff he was missing out on. In February of 2003, he quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and used the money he’d saved to wander around Asia until it ran out.
Kottke.org had an interesting video on his site the other day. A trap-jaw ant jumping 8cm in the air. This is equivalent of a human being jumping 40ft. This little bug set the world speed record for the fastest body part and fastest self powered strike.
Below is a real “day in the life” of several Iraqi refugees. I thought this video was worth posting because they really do a great job of showing you the daily lives and struggles of Iraqi refugees. We’re not going home until it’s safe for them to go home.
Here’s the snippet from the original site:
It’s the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War and with talk of it not being even half-way through, we are approaching the 4000th American combat death.
More importantly, a recent World Health Organization report based on Iraqi Health Ministry figures estimated that 151,000 Iraqi civilians were killed between March 2003, the start of the invasion, and June 2006.
Many of the reports of civilian deaths are disputed. What cannot be argued, however, is another grave consequence of the Iraq War: the displacement crisis as a mass exodus of Iraqis flee the instabilities and ever-increasing sectarian violence at home, tearing their families apart. In mid-January 2008, with the support of the United Nations High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR), I traveled to Amman, Jordan to photograph and record a few of these families trapped in a no-man’s land; asylum seekers looking for refuge, too afraid to return to their blood-soaked country.
Here are a few of their stories.
Take the time to watch this jewel, it makes all the sense in the world and he obviously doesn’t care about hurting anyone’s feelings. The most memorable quote from the video comes about five minutes in where he says, “my freedom is far more important than your faith”. Well, I agree with every word he says.
Another rendition, but this time the little fella’ hires a creepy clown. This is what advertising is all about!
Something about a baby taunting you after purchasing stock and throwing up like a genuine baby makes me laugh every time.
